Atlast we have “in-place” the much awaited Delhi trip… thanks to Rahul, Bhargav, Harsha and Kiran!!!!!

We have a thorough winter trip planned surpassing Chennai, Warangal, Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla, Manali, Rohtang Pass and back..:) The trip is put in place over the republic day weekend and we all are expecting to experience the sub-zero temperatures over some of the best Northern passes!!

Rough draft of the trip is put down:-

24th Jan 2012 2200 hrs – Starting from Chennai/Bangalore
25th Jan 2012 0930 hrs – Meeting at Warangal
26th Jan 2012 0500 hrs – Arriving at Delhi
26th Jan 2012 1100 hrs – Starting for Chandigarh/Shimla
27th Jan 2012 0700 hrs – “Exploring” Shimla/Starting for Manali
28th Jan 2012 0700 hrs – “Exploring” Manali/Starting for Rohtang
29th Jan 2012 0700 hrs – “Exploring” Manali/Starting for Delhi
30th Jan 2012 0630 hrs – Staring for Chennai/Bangalore

Its jus too good of nites in Chennai here, with heavy downpours every other evening. U find damp weather in the daylight and all of sudden, u find clouds coming in.. and whooomph!… Rains and Rains all night… By the way, its been pretty unpredictable weather this autumn season in India. In th north, you find floods all over, places like in the ranges and mid-peninsular regions, you have below avg rainfall… and here down south, we are njoying more than avg rainfall. This unpredictable condition attributes, purely to the degradation that we are causing to our environment, So, my claim will be to, return the very soul of nature, back to it, by adapting eco-friendly measures, Thanks for this wonderful day.. Mother Nature!!!

As a fresher to Oracle forms, today, based on my experiences, i ‘ll discuss package creation in oracle forms. As a CPP-strongheld, i thought package creation is rather simple in Oracle forms… but i was all wrong I had to face around 3 hrs of tough moments, before I could successfully compile my 1st package, that I created in my life

Whats a Package? Its just a logical collection of codes, in the form of procedures, functions, triggers (form-level, block-level, data-level)….. all put together, in a single file unit, which is used to perform a macro-functionality. Pl note.. this definition of pkgs holds good for Oracle forms.. and may vary with change in technologies. These packages may simply be used by their instance-names. There a umpty no. of system packages and of course, we the usrs may create umpty-umpty no. of packages….;)

But one stupid situation I faced today.. while creating pkgs… was in the usage of in-pkg local variables. Every package in Oracle-forms has a Specification and a Body. A Pkg Spec reveals header information about the entire package. It reveals ..what are the major functionalities that u are going to describe in the pkg itself!! As a CPP pgmer.. I thought, a local variable’s scope is retrictred to a particular block of code it is defined in… But.. thats not the case while defining functions/procs in pkgs!!!  For instance,

CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE pkg1

IN

CREATE FUNCTION fn1

returns var1 …. mention datatypes n all)

……. fn body…….

define and use var2

end function fn1

…………………….

CREATE FUNCTION fn2

returns var1 …. mention datatypes n all)

SO, ppl like me may conventinally think that var1 and var2 in both the functions are different and have no relation altogether.. But thats not the case!! Only var3 is valid here…Here u land in a state of confusion… The Pkg spec and body gets compiled successfully individually … No compile time errors…:) But pgm fails to behave well logically… It throws some random exception during run-time.. So ppl never use same var-names across different package-entries…. Until nxt time around..

FRM-41352 Failed to create a new session

ORA-01017 – Invalid User ID/Password:Logon denied

“Mind u!! If these are the set of errors that u get while initiating your forms, you can assume yourself that you r digging urself into hell!!!!!!! Welcum Hell!!”

This is how v felt for around three weeks, when v tried around a 100+ possibilities for recovering from these two Oracle-based and Forms-based errors. Basically it occurs when your db version is 11g and that your forms version is 9…. And that when your are migrating your Forms from 6 to 10g/11g….. And in particular, am giving thse solution for ppl having above requirements.. which otherwise is hell lot easier to solve..!!!

Solution:- The Crux of the solution is jus a cakewalk Oracle 11g DB is Case sensitive! dats it….. Jus get Admin rights and set the case-sensitivity of Oracle DB to false!!!

ALTER SYSTEM SET SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON = FALSE;

The beauty of this problem is unlimited!! This particular setting affects all the forms that are migrated from previous versions to Forms 10g/11g with access to db 10g. And one oder thing… in the form-server path.. u got to edit your default.env file to get the correct results across forms.. that is when u go across forms or even access some basic functionalities of a form..

1. Goto <ORACLE_HOME>/forms/server
2. Open default.env or user-customized .env file
3. Set CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON=false
4. Check for FORMS_USERNAME_CASESENSITIVE=0

Dat should solve your pbm… In case of any queries.. jus leave your comments ..

Itss been really long since i posted my last blog!! Wonder why.. its all TCS .. that has driven me from my just-finished-amateur life to all together new world… the a]Professional world! Never in my dreams, had I thot, this day will cum so soon in my life, where everything that you do has a professionalism behind it! And this actually kept busy for a while nw… which is the only reason y.. I couldn even blog!! To be frank.. I couldn manage my time better enough that I could devout things that I lik the most !!!!

Belated Diwali wishes..Am really excited to be back.. with sum brreakthru in my career… my first job!!!!.. So itne din wait karne ka nateeza,,,… Am finally called up by TCS… joining October, the 26th.. in Trivandrum (India)…. I feel really happy at this moment.. to gain a spot in the company.. after a span of three  hazzle-free and reaally cozy & lazy months at home The past three months has been a perfect gap b/w the stressful 4years of college lyf and.. of course the mere future @TCS….

So it all started when we were leaving home for diwali… the weekend ahead lukd reaaly excitin.. and so was one.. and the news reached within no time after declaration of 2nd batch of coolleges.. from CS background… was released by TCS.. The news came as a perfect “diwali” gift, to each one of us put up in the company.. So was the festive occasion.. spreading light and happiness all over

All happy things apart…. i knew myself… there were tons of formalities to be completed in the following week… before joining… the highlight of the entire thing. being .. gettin attestations of tons of ppl.. u know… ppl  whom u hav never evr met.. and so on…..  all reqd docs had to be completed before joining to ensure a hazzle -free entrance to tcs Such was the intensity of the week .. (of which 3 days have already passed by… ).. now almost in the finishing stages to pack off to trivandrum aka tvm….

Now on.. it will be exciting new things hapening around me… atleast after this blog…. and i ll sure.. share wit u all my experiences in TCS and.. yes of corse Trivandrum!!!!!!!

For the 2nd day in a row, there has been some marvelous cricket played in the Champions League T20… There was a gr8 match, yesd, Sussex losing to Eagles in a thrilling one-over tie-break… So was today… with Trinidad & Tobago pulling off gr8 win over the hosts,,,… and ultimately knocking off the T20 champions, Deccan Chargers, from the tournament

Well… as promised in my previous blogs… I am happy to solve, .. rather share… with you , all the pbms/difficulties that u face with an dedicated HDMI-HDMI connection… I found many ppl, discussing in their forums, about the audio issues, that they encounter when connecting an LCD television and a Personal Computer (often a portable computer like the notebooks) with their respective HDMI slots available.. I will show u ppl, stepwise, the configuration of a successful (upto 90% success rate ) HDMI connection (btw HDMI – High-Definition Multiple Interface ).

For all these things to happen, I assume myself that .. u ppl having a HDMI jack (this is the most challenging if u don hav one!!!! – not a pbm in big metropolitans.. comes to around 400 INR… really worth for money!),  a laptop/PC with a HDMI slot and a LCD television. Now I have with me, Microsoft Vista installed in my HP Pavilion notebook. Settings may differ with different OSes.

1. Identify main components :-

2. Connect the HDMI jack with the slots of both ends (viz. the LCD and the laptop).

3. As soon as you do dat, u get urself a Display Setting window in front of you. In case u fail to get one, get this point correct: Restart your PC!!!! The next time you will be getting that window, else open it under Desktop-Popup menu-> Personalize-> Display Settings, follow the pics below:

4. Select the 2nd display in the drop down menu. Make sure you check both the options.

5. Come back to the first display monitor, and uncheck all the entries (mostly u need to uncheck the second option).

6. This completes your default display settings and projects your pc-display on your LCD. Make sure you switched on the HDMI channel in your LCD television after clicking the “apply” button (coz’ it asks your confirmation for 15 secs!)

7. After you get yourself dun with the Display Settings, check the following step to a successful Audio config: Right Click on your Volume notification Icon on taskbar -> Select “Plaback Devices”. Just change the “default” option of the enlisted devices to the SPDIF Interface/LCD Television Interface. The Interface names may change with different LCD versions. Once you connect the HDMI jack, this interface gets installed automatically, else just update your drivers (thats the worst possible scenario one can undergo!!!). You shd nw be able 2 watch movies on your LCD TV via lap
